The Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Secondary Education Teacher Certification Option at Dalton State give you comprehensive learning opportunities geared towards your future in the biological sciences as well as prepares you for initial teacher certification as a middle school life sciences or high school biology teacher. In this track you will complete a comprehensive course selection of biology content and education courses along with field experience in both a middle and high school setting, culminating in a final semester-long internship and two-week student teaching experience when you will assume control of lesson planning, lesson implementation and classroom management. In this track you can enjoy the same hands-on experiences as general biology students, such as undergraduate research collaborations, faculty-lead readings in biology and participation in the award-winning Biology Honors Society club, which will help guide you into your career with confidence.
These experiences in the Biology Secondary Education track will give you a broad background in the biological sciences and prepare you for a career in teaching at the middle and high school level as well as working at private research companies, government agencies, nonprofits, higher education institutions and in environmental science.
